      Nature has its own flow: something takes root, grows, bears fruit, releases a seed, and begins again. A cycle that repeats endlessly around us, yet we rarely pause to notice it.<\/span><\/p>\n

      This three-day retreat is an invitation to observe it closely and to let it guide you. The root anchors the plant to the earth, drawing from its depths so that fruit may be born. There, sheltered within its flesh, the seed carries all the information necessary for the life yet to come. At Tinos Ecolodge, this flow is visible and tangible \u2014 and the theme Root-Fruit-Seed follows it step by step. Clay is the medium. The farm is the teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

      This retreat is a call to observation and documentation. Three days among fruit trees, herbs, and plants invite us to surrender to the forms of nature and translate them into ceramic figures. Before making, we gather images, textures, and shapes and use them as our creative starting point.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Day 1 (3\/7) \u2014 \u00ab\u00a0Roots\u00a0\u00bb: Imprint as Language<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

      Afternoon<\/span><\/strong>: We begin with a guided walk around the farm with the goal of \u00ab\u00a0harvesting images\u00a0\u00bb \u2014 leaves, bark, seeds, soil, stone. Each participant will be given a handmade notebook for sketches and notes. The question is not what we see, but what draws us: which plant, which texture, which detail asks to be touched?<\/span><\/p>\n

      After our walk, we gather for a first encounter with clay. An introduction to imprinting techniques; how a leaf, a knot of wood, a shell leaves its trace on a clay slab? We create our first portraits of the farm exploring the concept of the relief.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Evening<\/span><\/strong>: Dinner made with farm products. We share our observations from the day that has passed.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Day 2 (4\/7)\u2014 \u00ab\u00a0Fruit\u00a0\u00bb: Learning from Forms<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

      Nature is the most intelligent designer. A pumpkin, a pomegranate, a fig; every fruit holds within it a logic, a harmony, a purpose, a mathematical sequence. On the second day, we copy it.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Morning<\/span><\/strong>: We will collect fruits and plants from the garden and examine them: which shapes are reoccurring, how nature designs things that are both clever and resilient, what purpose each form serves. We will create small ceramic objects inspired by these forms: bowls, cups, or small sculptures that are called to reflect nature’s ingenuity.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Afternoon<\/span><\/strong>: Free time in the workshop space. Each participant is free to sketch, work with clay, or simply observe. The ceramicist will be available for guidance but will offer participants room to develop their own ideas and experiment.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Late afternoon<\/strong>:<\/span> Optional sunset walk among the dry-stone walls.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Morning<\/span><\/strong>: The retreat’s final activity draws inspiration from seed bombs and will invite participants to create two small ceramic sculptures concealing seeds from the farm within them. The unfired clay will be left in the earth and will gradually dissolve, making room for the seeds to grow. Some of the sculptures will remain at the Ecolodge as an imprint of the group, while the rest will be taken home by each participant.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Afternoon<\/span><\/strong>: The retreat\u2019s cycle will close with a final communal meal and a small closing ceremony, reflecting on everything we will carry with us as we leave.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Eirini Vlavianou (b. 1994, Athens) is a visual artist, ceramicist, and educator. She holds a masters degree in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins and a degree in Audiovisual Design from the Willem De Kooning Academy. She has also completed her specialization in ceramic art under the guidance of the artist Giorgos Tserionis.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

      Vlavianou is a member of the feminist community Room to Bloom, a lecturer at the Polytechnic School of Metropolitan College, and a member of the initiative Avtonomi Akadimia a project aimed at the creative reimagining of education and self-learning, as well as the protection of public space. She has also worked as an editor and research assistant at Jaws Journal, and her work has been published in magazines such as Solitude Journal 4, by Akademie Solitude.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

      She has participated as an artist in various group exhibitions, and as a speaker and organizer at symposia within the public programs of Avtonomi Akadimia and the Kyiv Biennial 2017. In 2022, Vlavianou was one of the artists selected for Scientist in Residence: Making Waves, a collaboration between UAL and the Tokyo Institute of Technology while in 2020, she received the ARTWORKS award from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

      Her practice is dedicated to the creation of narratives, uncanny embodiments, and new mythologies, centered around the concepts of rest, destruction, memory, and endings. Drawing inspiration from historical practices and imagery, Vlavianou explores these concepts through sculptural forms and installations.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
